NATIONAL GALLERY GRAND TOUR
Around 30 full-size replicas of masterpieces were hung on walls of locations around the city ... Hamleys toy shop, the Palace Theatre, Cafe Nero, a pub in Carnaby Street ... and even a massage parlour. Passers-by viewed works by artists like Botticelli, Holbein, Michaelangelo, Stubbs, Seurat and Van Gogh. All the paintings were reproduced using the latest technology from project sponsors Hewlett-Packard, and each one framed as it would be in a gallery. The role of Simon Robinson & Son was to make a bespoke frame for each piece of art. We worked in conjunction with The Partners PR company - www.thepartners.co.uk - on one of the biggest jobs they've ever undertaken. So large in fact, that Lester's father, Simon, came out of retirement to help! As most of the reproductions were very large the project required close collaboration between everyone involved. It was a demanding task but the end result was spectacular. There was a huge amount of press about the event. You can read more by downloading a PDF of the press cuttings here >> More information about the event can be found at www.thegrandtour.org.uk
